  1. Guys,

I will gladly donate some Carp kit to this event please send me some details of when, where and who to send the info to.

    Cheers

    Simon

Carp Kit International is kicking in very generously with a $200 voucher. Thanks Simon!

  2. The duck fries (fries fried in duck fat) are Friday and Saturday only. In addition to hot dogs cooked every possible way (steamed, grilled, deep fried, corn dogged, etc), they do a rotating assortment of specials such as Apple Pork Sausage with Curry Mayonnaise and Smoked Blue Cheese drizzled with Honey, chicken sausage topped with seaweed salad and sriacha mayo topped with duck cracklings. Other available meats might include kangaroo, aligator, rattlesnake and more.

Another, more basic but still great, hot dog place is Gene & Judes Red Hot Stand. It is out in the suburbs and a bit of a drive from the city but worth a stop if you are going to or coming from O'Hare.

  3. Roadfood.com is my go-to place for "where-to-eat-on -the-road" advice and they are organizing an eating tour of Chicago and Millwaukee. They have not put together the full schedule yet but there is enough to give you some hints on what to eat in Chicago.

    Some examples:

"There are so many Holy Grail eats on the 2011 Fall Eating Tour itinerary that it's hard to know where to begin. How about this for a headliner: In Chicago, you will have a unique opportunity to savor one of Hot Doug's legendary foie gras hot dogs (with duck fat French fries, of course) without having to endure the equally legendary hour-plus wait in line! ... tour of Chicago that will include Hot Doug's, deep-dish pizza, soul-food barbecue, and other unique Windy City destinations still to be determined."

    For more, see here.

Their assessment of Hot Doug's is accuate - it is THE place to go for encased meat. Besides the famous deep dish pizza, Chicago also has Great Lake Pizza - said by GQ to be the best pizza in the country. For BBQ, Smoque and Honey 1 are tops on the north side but my personal favorite is Lem's on the South Side - I usually go for the ribs but the hot links are also great.

  4. Taped a 30 min radio "outside" show with Dale Bowman and Joel Greenberg that will be broadcast Monday Aug 1 at 4:30 p.m.on WKCC-FM (91.1) and rebroadcast at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Podcast of the show will be available here.

  5. Are you talking about artificial casings? I don't have any first hand experience with them. I Just use natural, pig casings, and they are somewhat fragile.

I suspect cow bungs would be tough enough, but a little large.

  6. Arma Mesh ®

"Quite simply one of the biggest advancements in hookbait systems ever, Arma Mesh is available on 7m tubes with both Narrow (14mm) and Wide (22mm) diameter variants and new for 2011 both Fine and Heavy weaves are available.

It has a tough hexagonal weave, similar in appearance to PVA, but it is made from nylon and DOES NOT DISSOLVE IN WATER so instead of using it to create a pile of free offerings around your hookbait as with PVA, you use Arma Mesh to create actual hookbaits.

As with PVA, Arma Mesh is supplied on a loading tube with a plunger and you create small bags of bait in exactly the same way - but you then thread it onto your hair as you would a boilie – it’s that simple!

armamesh_Bait_Shots.jpgArma Mesh allows you to create totally unique baits; not only can you present really soft baits such as bread, meat, cheese, prawns and pastes perfectly and fish them at range but it also opens up possibilities with baits which are not easily hairrigged such as hemp, canned tuna, mini pellets, boilie crumb and liquidised bread - the only limit is your imagination!

Arma Mesh is also perfect for protecting hookbaits from nuisance species and meshing pellet hookbaits will prolong their underwater life allowing you to fi sh them all day – or night. Select the Fine denier weave for most angling situations but step up to the double thickness Heavy version where species such as crayfi sh are a real menace.

  7. I'm afraid I cannot be very specific about fishing the rivers - I left MN a few decades ago. I did fish the Mississippi fairly often when I was a student at the U of M, usually Hennipenn Island or other spots in the city and near the campus. But everything has changed a lot since then.

I think you should assume the one-rod rule means one-rod. I would not expect any flexiblity on the law.

Phone- the state government was shut down for a while because of budget problems but it is running now so I assume one can get a license.

  8. The first question that might come to mind is "who is Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts?" He was the cartoon character created by the illustrious Rube Goldberg and was the inventor of the "Rube Goldberg Machines". You can see some examples here.

The Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts Award for Creative Carp Gear was a part of the CCC for many years but has fallen by the wayside recently. We are resurrecting it for the 2011 CC and we encourage you to start thinking about a project. Some past winners have been a rod pod, bite alarm, do-it-all fishing chair and a bunch of other cool stuff. Keep an open mind, be creative and win a great prize.

  9. Here's a deal - The next ten people to register for the CCC (and pay) will get a free MP3 of the great song "I Like Carp" by the incomparable New Duncan Imperials, downloadable from Amazon. Read all about the band here.

Act fast, this offer expires at the end of May.

  10. I don't know if i'll fish since I'll be flying up, but I do plan to attend.

Our company's head office is in Wheaton and I'm already planning for some excuse to be up there the week before the event  .

I can loan you whatever gear you need if you do want to fish. Or I could sell you a set of nice telescopic rods - they do travel well.

  11. Thank you, Simon.

The event is Sept. 9-11 in Chicago.

    You can send donations to:

    Paul Pezalla

    1422 W Roosevelt Road

Or, better, plan on attending the event and bring the donations with you. It would be a great oportunity to meet current and prospective customers.
