That pretty much confirms my thoughts. I have been going to Itasca with my extended family for the past 10 or more years and have never brought a rod. No carp, no fishing for me. But as you say, the scenery is great.
There are some good carp in Saskatchewan so there must be factors other than latitude responsible for the dearth of carp in northern Minnesota.

I have seen a few carp in the Otter Tail but have never caught one. Do you have any idea where the nearest carp to Lake Itasca migh be found?

Carp are attracted to running water even when they are not in spawn mode.

Just a reminder that the CCC is a solo event and it does move around the country (at least that is the plan - it is turning out to be difficult to find people in dfferent areas willing to organize it).

We are in the middle of a move to a space about twice as big as the old store. It is located at 1422 Roosevelt Road in Broadview IL, about 4 miles west of the old store. New phone number should be available next Wednesday and the we should be more-or-less in place by then.

Can't be a koi/carp hybrid since they are the same species.

While I am very happy for Magda and Ernest, it is not something I would have encouraged. I have lost, temporarily, a virtal part of the WB&T enterprise.
I hope she returns soon. -
Magdalena (the soul of WB&T) and Ernest welcomed their new daughter Maya into the world on Feb. 1. I trust Ernest will post a picture or two for us soon. Word has it, she is VERY cute.
With parents like Magda and Ernest, I am willing to bet that Maya will catch her first carp by June.

I almost hate to bring this up but Mirek M. had a 30 out of the Chicago River last Sunday. It was 30 even, same fish as he had last July at 31-14.
He used a rod and reel so I guess he sort of cheated.

I fish 4 rods on a Sky Pod all the time (limit in Illinois is 50 rods for most waters). Works fine with judicious placement of the baits - don't put all 4 straight out at the same distance. Tangles happen but the are very rare.
