Hey there John. I am also an expat form Blighty & used to fish Stanborough Lake back in the day. I now live in Ohio, but my Sister lives in Parker CO.
Will be hooking up with her this Xmas & thought i may bring a rod with me to try for some Colorado Carp.
Welcome to Cag & good luck with your fishing.
Dave.

Wow! Magnificent scenery (puts the Maumee to shame) & some incredible captures guys. A very BIG congratulations from a very jealous Ohioan.
-
Me too. I follow all threads related to Ohio.
-
Lol @ Bob. Great to be able to share some family time with an ulterior motive.
Dave, you and Mike Bold have fished that water more than we have , do you guys have any sections in mind ?
Yep! the first is @ Independence Damn State Park, where i have been told that you can stay overnight if you are fishing. You know i have fished here, catching my Grasser from here. But after just 3 short trips, i have yet to catch a normal carp from here, the other species being my big mouthed Buff!. There is bankspace available here, but it could be a little limiting.
2nd is the Mary Jane Thurston State Park, Where they allow year round camping. I have yet to take a propper reece trip to Mary Jane & to see what & where bankspace is available.I am still on the lookout for other ares to fish that could accommodate all of us & shall keep you posted as to my findings.
Bold will need to fill you in on the ares around Toledo as i have not been up that far as of yet

I'd really like to fish some different venues this year. I think we need people from all around the state to scout out areas that are unknown.
Agreed Vince, I will do my best over winter to look at some new spot & try to gain weekend fishing access to them.
Good luck with the schedule guys, I know that some of us in Michigan have been wanting to fish Ohio, maybe 2013 might be the year.
If any consideration is or will be given to the Maumee River, I know quite a few of us Michiganders would have some interest. Maybe a joint venture/exploration??
Tight lines all,
Andy
I have been looking into The Maumee River & have a couple of spots in mind. One allows night fishing & i need to find out about the other. With such a long stretch of the river here in NW Ohio, i am positive we can get something moving here.

Glad your move paid off for you!
Thats quiet the haul of buffs.
Congrats.

Kind of looks like a grass carp!
Well done Ak, now go & catch some more buddy.
-
Great session guys. A big congrats.

Lol @ Ak. im taking it you cant read the lingo then buddy?, lol, i cant say that i blame you

Welcome CarpeDiem to carp fishing in NW Ohio
NW Ohio seems to be the least fished part of Ohio
Maybe its the lack of waters that are known about
Oh well! More fish for Brian & i to catch
Lets go catch some Carp Brian, we have no competition
-
Great competition idea. Wish you had a section for Euro carpers from back in the day. I could have supplied you with a whole album of silliness
-
Again, some really nice looking fish here. Shame i got on here too late, still better late than never besides your not late till you get there
-
Great competiton & VERY hard to decide which one should have won. If the competiton had been split into two parts 1. most beautifull & 2. most unusual, it would have still been hard
Congratulations to the winner, that fish had both beauty & it was unusual.
Thanks to all the members that entered their fish in the competiton. Its great to see so many fantasic carps here in North America. Just makes you wanna get out there & catch some more
Ideas for future competitions; Most attractive angler
Ps. i did not vote as i came to this forum after the deadline & im not a CAG member yet, but nos. 5-12 & 16 were my on my shortlist
-
Could you also post were you would be comming from.
Just wondering how many people would also show up from IL or IN.
What about us Ohioans?
Its about 3 hours from me but i think it could make for a good time.
Let me know when you come up with the details & i will see if i can make it. Would be great to meet some CAG members.

What an amazing piece of photography, asuming it wasn't photo shopped.
I once caught a 12 lb mirror whilst fly fishing for trout. It gave me the fight of its life on the light tackle & took me a good half hour to subdue. Does any one else have any stories of carp on fly tackle?

Hey guys, I just wanted stop on in the Ohio forum here and let you guys that are around the Toledo area and Northwest Ohio know that a Bait Shop in Monroe Michigan Right off I-75 is now carrying carp fishing gear. I am not aware of any in this part of Ohio. I was able to talk the owner into getting an assortment of products. He will also order stuff for you if he doesn't have it in like rods , reels, rod pods. He also agreed to offer all CAG members a 10% discount on all Carp gear.
So if you ever up this way and need anything feel free to stop on by sometime.
Jeff's Bait & Tackle
1756 North Dixie Highway
Monroe, MI 48162
Awesome stuff, great to know that we have some carp supplies within reach. Does the shop have a website??
Thanks for posting the info.
Dave.

Many thanks for the information Vince,
I will have to look Brian up & see if he would like to get out on the banks for a while. The videos & information are a real help. Funnily enough i had been looking at the river at Defiance since taking my dog for a walk over the bridge & spying a good sized carp feeding in the margin. To my knowledge no one else fishes for carp in this area, which will make a nice change after fishing heavilly pressured waters back in the UK where you have to take whatever pegs are left.
I will be looking for a warm water discharge around the city limits to fish (I used to break the ice back home to get my lines in) so am used to cold water carping in all but the most extreme conditions. There are a couple of dams in the area also where there is always water movement enough to be able to keep on fishing.
Thanks once again for the information & i will keep you posted on how i get along.
Tight lines, Dave.

Hello all,
My name is David McManus & i live in Paulding, North west Ohio (very close to Indiana & Michigan). Im a British expat who moved to Ohio 3 years ago. After having chased the bluegills, bass & catfish here since i arrived, i am now resorting back to what i know best, Carpfishing.
Having been a carp fisherman back in England for 30 years i am well versed in carp fishing bait, tackle & techniques.
I will find the carp on my own (i can smell em') but would love to hear from anyone who can show me some good venues also. In return i can share with you my knowledge, stories & friendship.
I have caught hundreds of carp to over 30 lbs, but know its time to beat my personal bests & catch some different types of carp in a new country. Looking forward to hearing from you, Dave.
PB's
Mirror Carp 31 lb 8oz (England)
Common Carp 25 lb 4oz (England)
Crusian Carp 2 lb 2oz (England)
Green Perch 2 lb 8oz (England)
Flathead Catfish 40 lb 3 oz (USA)

Hello Ohioans,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be resigning from the State Chair position at the end of the year. I'm posting it now to give anyone the opportunity to take over the role before next years events.
Thanks,
Vince Shiflet
Hi Vince,
I was just wondering what the job requirements are?
Dave.
