  1. Thanks everybody, the fantail was deffinetly a welcomed addition last night. Skeet3t - The general consensus ive gathered from other anglers I talked to in my area is that its some kind of hybrid, probably common and goldfish? If anybody has anything to add on these fish as far as the correct name we should be calling them by or anything would be great. Barbelfloat - It did put up a nice fight and and it stayed pretty low in the water close in to shore, possibly the big fins helped it hold position in the water? That tail also can move quite a bit of water during the release, it deff gave me a little splash haha.

  2. Bryan and I headed back out to the river tonight to do some fishin. We did fairly well landing 6 fish and staying somewhat dry in the rain. The biggest fish of the night was a 24lb 8oz common but that took a back seat to another awesome fish which was a 18lb fantail!

The big fish of the night at 24lb8oz.

Now heres a picture of the 18lb fantail, this is the 5th fan tail we have gotten since we started our fall carp fishing this year.

Heres a view of the tail which we estimated to be give or take a foot long.

We had thought these fish didnt get very big but now who knows how big they could get?20+??30+????

  3. In my last post I had commented that we had been hearing some bigger splashes in our favorite swim recently after the water came up from the recent rain. The fishing has seemed to slow down a bit since the river came up with bites coming few and far between but we still have been able to pull a few out over the last couple days. One of the fish being a new PB for my buddy Bryan who caught that 16.9lb fantail recently beating his old PB by 9 ounces. Heres a couple pictures of Bryans 33lb8oz new personal best! Also id like to point out that sweet New York Giants hat, GO GMEN!!

We plan on getting back out tomorrow night and hopefully we have been able to keep the bigger fish around and can land 1 or 2 more.

  4. Thanks guys, that fantail was somethin special and made all of prior efforts to bait worth it. Socalcarper we would love to stay out longer than we do but we have to up our game and get bivys and bedchairs to be comfortable and hide from the new england weather. Santosh we are looking forward to your upcoming visit as well, the river should be producing well in may.

  5. Back to the CT river it was for myself and a buddy after fishing a local pond last weekend. We spent time over the previous two days baiting one of our favorite areas to fish on the river and also a new swim we have been talking about fishing for quite a while. The first session was spent out on our usual swim last night and went pretty well. My buddies and I still only have 1 rod a piece with the intentions of buying our 2nd rod over the winter. We did fairly well pulling in 10 fish over 5 or 6 hours and we took a few photos to share.

This was a 23lb common caught by my buddy Bryan.

This next fish was a 21lb12oz common caught by myself sometime after Bryans fish.

This fish was the highlight of the night for us. Another fantail hybrid of some sort and the biggest we have seen from the river yet at 16lb9oz caught by Bryan!

A fairly large rainstorm came in late in the night and we decided to pack it in but we also caught a number of upper teen sized fish, a couple low teens and another couple low 20's. In the morning we had a couple things we had to take care of but managed to get to our new swim and into the water for about noon today. Having been showed promise on the first time we baited the spot a couple of days ago with a handful of carp splashing and showing on the surface we had high hopes of catching some fish. After casting in we sat down and waited for a bite and we didnt have to wait long as we had a fish on 20 minutes into the day.

The first fish came in at 21lb12oz and was pretty cool lookin.

This was a fish caught by Bryan and we took a photo because it had a nice gold tint to it in comparison to some of the other fish we have been getting recently. The camera on my cell phone did the best it could but it could have been better.

This next fish was the biggest of the day and came towards the end of the session. It was starting to rain pretty heavily and Bryan did the best he could to take a quick picture without getting my phone wet and possibly destroyed which ive done once already this year. Came in at 25lb12oz.

We got chased out of there after about 5 hours and 12 fish including a few in the low to mid 20s, a good amount of mid teens and a few low teens. All in all its been a successful last couple sessions on the Connecticut river and we are trying to work our way through to some bigger fish!

  6. Hey everybody I made it out with one of my buddies today to a local cove that branches from the CT river. The spot hasnt been known for big fish but we just wanted to kill a couple hours and have some fun. There wasnt much signs of life in the area for the first hour we were there then we started seeing some bubbles come up so we recasted in the general vasinity in hopes of getting a bite or two. It wasnt long before we were getting play on the lines and got a take. I hooked up with a fish i could tell wasnt very big but it was interesting non the less.

Another Fantail hybird??? Im not exactly sure what to call these carp we have been getting as they do not appear to be a full fantail so for lack of a better word im going with fantail hybrid.

With a little assistance from my buddy we were able to capture the size of the tail.

Once again for lack of a better word im gonna say the nostrils on these fan tail hybrids seem to have some kind of growth. Ive noticed this on the last 4 ive seen.

About a half hour later I had another take it and it felt like a better fish. Here it is.

This fish came in at just over 20lbs and has some kind of growth on its back? Anyhow hope you enjoy the post and any feedback on what these fantail hybrids are called would be great.

  7. Hey everybody this is my first post in the CAG forums. My name is Mike Hudak and im addicted to carp fishing. I spend most of my free time fishing for carp, preparing to fish for carp or just being present in any given room and thinking about fishing for carp haha. But seriously I just enjoy getting out with my buddies and having a great time trying to bank some carp. I live in the Hartford area of Connecticut and am about a 10-15 minute ride to the Connecticut river and/or other locations for catching carp. Ive been fishing for carp for about 4 years now but only seriously fishing for carp for the last 2. Since then its been been alot of great times with friends and family and even a few fish. Enough about all that and lets see if I can successfully get some pictures in here.

Now that the cold weather is here and the days are getting shorter the fellas and I said its time to get the ball rollin on some serious carp fishing. We spent time preparing a bunch of bait for the upcoming season and tying some rigs up and baiting a little bit. We decided to start it off at our favorite hole down on the CT river. On a our first couple sessions the water was still very warm but the air was cold and the river was steaming at night and the action was very strange. We managed to get some fish but it was a battle. Here are a couple of the fish we caught that were pretty interesting.

The mirror was actually caught by my buddies mom who loves to fish and this was her first trip out carp fishing with us all year. Down here in the CT river in connecticut mirrors are rare and ive yet to catch one yet. My buddy still might be losing sleep over this as it was the rod he was using that she pulled the fish in on and he has also yet to get a mirror out of the river. Since then the water temps have started going down and the fishing has been better. We have had a few decent night sessions bringing in some nice fish. Heres the biggest yet that was caught by my buddy who is in his first season carp fishing and his PB at 26+lbs.

Heres a 18+mirror he caught on the same night. Also his first mirror and the 2nd to come out of our swim in the last 2 weeks, pretty exciting as we havent seen one down there over the last 2 to 3 years.

Heres a 23+ I got the other night.
