I'm in depending on dates.....mid-spring would be great!!.....I'd like to involve CAG from a state level, so let me help!.....  :)

Amen to that......message me some dates, ..it supposed to be a magic kinda place at night ...but they are open april thru oct

  3. Hello everyone! an up-date about bob's fishing lakes in Savanna Mo....had a long phone call with the owner Ed..and he is excited about us having a competitive social there in 2018...he was VERY open about better carp care as anyone who had to spend $ to buy them!....a few brits have popped up there in the past...so he knew a tiny bit about the landing mats and nets etc...I told him we can share better carp care by example....and that he could get more sales out of his anglers selling kit they can't buy from Walmart or bass-pro shops!...as far as big fish the biggest fish like in any pressured water do not get caught much...there are several 40# class fish in the upper 30's and a mid 40's taken 2 years ago....I am confident that a state record resides in that 4a lake...no fish have been stocked in over a year....some buffalo are in the lake but they have been removing the large catfish and buffalo to his other lake....this is the closest thing we have anywhere like an english syndicate water...told him naming a few of the big fish and a capture board would motivate those like they do in the UK!....

we discussed about having a team event and costs/rules so will be working out details...part of entry fees will include their famous fried tenderloin dinner that was voted best in state....and some "if your not a carp fisherman you ain't ####" T shirt/hand towels...LOL....they are Bivvy/Brolly Friendly and open in April through October....already have about 8 people said they would go...

if you have suggestions on when this should happen please let me know before I get this puppy planned

he also said they have very few people fish during the day...so if someone wanted to chase a state record, they might hit it up some time....leading by example on fish handling and if you go please be nice and share why your catching way more fish than others (super secret baits aside)

This place is a reasonable drive from KC and could be great for recruiting more carpers...both casual and competitive

If you have any Ideas or suggestions please let me know

  4.  think I should post this...Question

WHY SHOULD SOMEONE PAY TO BE IN CAG?...those reasons used to be obvious,

    Our objectives are clear:

“To gain acceptance of the carp as an exciting and challenging sport fish."

"To become better carp anglers, assist others and encourage them to join us. "

But with social media you can learn fine tuning details outside of CAG like never before, you can in short order learn things that took the rest of us decades of trial and error....we still do that, yet the social aspect IMHO has been lacking..I joined CAG after a "fish-in" an old school CAG term for socials..friendly faces that can hand you extra kit, bait and you can see all the gear hands on goes along way to making someone a carp convert..and oh yeah handing someone a rod with a screaming run drag busting carp will bring a smile to even a old school fisherman....socials should be a major push of CAG...back in the day, people went to trade shows/boatshows/etc and they handed out "diddybags" IMHO CAG should do that at bigger "recruiting socials" where lots on non fishing "lookie lews" can see and become interested even have a tent to hand out diddy bags and hand out information...recruiting socials should be in locations with plenty of fish, and a public park like area where people can see..many of these places are available to grow membership and our ranks....

"To treat the carp with respect, promote the release of trophy-size carp and encourage others to do the same."

this is a no brainer, proper fish handling allows a healthy carp to be recaptured, many a record or PB has been caught before a little bigger each time. C & R works plain and simple...also with the growth of Bfing and even harvesting carp for the table has made it a priority to seek regulation changes at the state and local level

IMHO members will pay to be a part of CAG for this factor alone..but CAG will need to show an effort to seek better carp friendly regulations as an organization

Other regs like 3 rod rules/chumming etc as well as the wanton disregard of on the books regulations by some state agencies (wanton waste - lighting & safety violations as examples)

Sometimes a letter from our groups or even side groups, and in some cases a letter with a lawyers letterhead might be in order....many would join CAG and would pay to fight the good fight many not even in the USA.

we should also seek alliances with other groups with similar goals and issues

Most of all: go fishing, share with others, and have fun.”

Carp are powerfull-intellegent-and huge compared to almost any fish in fresh water, that with its widespread availability like no fish in North America. spread the word! and take people fishing....

I would hazard to guess "bowhunters"....the majority of which I have seen are indiscriminate-taking any and all carp......I lob balls of pack bait, but none as large as oranges- I'll give it a whirl!!......

only reason I make the balls that big is I can chunk them out farther on my baiting spoon with 5 foot handle, any bigger they don't fly out as far and it sounds like someone lobbing bricks in the water.....I catapult them out, golf ball size when I am fishing as I don't want that much noise...as a note in a pinch a big method ball can be a personal space defense weapon..it the dark-no lights-dress in camo - give a new meaning to "death from above"..ask me about my special cat chit/litter and coyote urine method balls sometime

What are Bfers? And does your feed corn have black lines on it like mine? I have yet to catch a carp on feed corn and was wondering it the feed corn I got wasn't up to quality.

 an affectionate term for those that "stab harvest" fish....feed corn rocks never noticed a black line reddish maybe, I take out a handful of boiled maize and use for hook baits prob the best go to bait....in a big stock pot presoak it 24 hours then boil for 30 or so min or until it starts to split... a 1/4 cup of salt and a table spoon of crushed red pepper..and use well water or in a pinch distilled water..lots of flavor options off the shelf in the grocery store, just remember the golden rule "less is more!" when i first started I over flavored the jeezus out of my baits..I think it overwhelms a carps sensory perception...so a 1/3 teaspoon in a 1/2 full bucket of fresh boiled maize is PLENTY even less if its a concentrate...a single packet of  jello (some very interesting flavors) in that 1/2 bucket of boiled maize, with the water mostly drained off, stir in the jello while the corn is still hot, put the lid on and its ready for your next days fishing

  8. I use well water for boiling everything.....if I am making a method mix I like oats pack/cream corn most of the year sometimes grits,.... winter bread crumb/canned sweet corn...a spoon of crushed red pepper rocks in boiled corn..corn chops boiled turns into a big goo..dumped into and ice chest and pour in rolled oats (can get it in 50# bags at a feed store) pre make your method balls...you can spike up the mix with hemp seed, boiled pop corn, peanuts, chick peas...a touch of deer attractant called "stump liquor" I use a baiting spoon and lob out big orange sized balls...do that most anywhere there are carp you will haul fish....be stealthy because Bfers will shoot you out........

Super excited to see BCT has hinders bait in stock!  Along with many many other companies!  I was going crazy trying to get hinders.  They make some good products.  I know a lot of new guys getting into carp fishing wonder where to get supplies and so on.  I recommend BCT.  Iv been dealing with dave for a long time.  with there new inventory, no need to buy over seas.  They have everything.  Including hinders! lol

I agree, when I first started it was crazy hard to get even the simplest kit...but BCT has stepped up and provided great goodies and always ready to help with questions!

  10. Best way is boil some corn and pre bait...find a nice place to set up and pull the fish to you!...50# of corn is cheap..once fish know food is there they will come back....once spring gets here and fish are in a feeding mood...I'd use a turkey fryer set up and boil up a whole bag of corn put it in 5 gal buckets and use a 50 pound bag of rolled oats and a bit of regular flour to make method balls lob them out with a catapult or baiting spoon on a long handle pick several spots along the shore and don't forget the margins.... do that twice..over about 10 days then go fishing.....I'd bet you'll catch some mammoth fish....

Sounds great, Kirk!  Thanks for the effort.  Do teams consist of two anglers?  Depending on the date, I would like to participate. --Frank Rink

The lake will have pegs and teams will draw for pegs..and a team can be just one person..but usually 2....unsure but think its a 4 rod per peg limit, but working out the details with the owners..will try to set up a date to maximize participation my goal is 10 CAG teams..that will also have their locals...they can have 60 teams!

Hope to pick a date with a good moon faze to maximize catching! (I am a big believer in solunar tables) this will be a great chance for people to give the paylakeing environment a shot without driving clear out to NC!......http://www.solunarforecast.com/solunarcalendar.aspx

  12. Planning stages of a TEAM event this spring, cost will be in the $75  range

format will be a bit more pay-lake-like. bathrooms, Bivvy friendly, dinner provided, diddy bag with carp goodies, T-Shirt etc...prob have a crack at winning $500-$1000 depending on how many sign up

already have some commitments....It will be held in the KC Missouri area (Kirk) contact me please sir....

Not convinced the forum decline is all down to facebook etc. This began when it became unfriendly towards non-members and people like Phone could no longer post in the bait section, for example. This is not a criticism, just an observation.

I can tell you there was an organized attempt to destroy CAG by elements in the Bfing community ..most CAGers I ever knew were friendly and giving freely of information

I would like to see some old members come back, more members and keep growing even more.

I agree...with social media now it will be FAR easier than it was in the 90's even early 2000's

what happened to the guy called KCcarper was the Kansas state chair? I have been reaching out to a group in the St Louis area...they left CAG because of perceived lack of value...biggest on their list was needing events...thats the easy part....I would work with our state chair and personally call is I could and email if necessary to get the old gangs back together..

I plan to chum over a 4 day period, once a day at 5:00 PM. I will leave a maize trail from spot a to c, and put a mixed particle of corn, oats, peanuts and chickpeas at spot c. Schedule below:

Day 1: 6 cups maize trail, 5 gallons mixed particle

Day 2: 6 cups maize trail, 5 gallons mixed particle

Day 3: 3 cups maize trail, 3 gallons mixed particle

Day 4: 3 cups maize trail, 3 gallons mixed particle

    Day 5&6: Fish! ;)

    Thoughts?

sounds like a plan! The feeder boilees, were do hold better as chum in current...If I was fishing it I would use pop up plastic maze...glugged...I have always caught my biggest carp on boilees....maze for numbers...but one rod always has a boilee for me..good luck and take pics and share!

The water I'm fishing is tidal, so the flow and direction of the current will change by the hour. Regardless of tides, there is a strong current entering the "b" Channel from the main river, pushing all bait from spot a, through spot b and into the C cove. Basically, all chum I put at b ends up at c, which is a completely slack eddy perfect for holding bait. Do you think carp would add this spot to their daily patrol routes if I chum enough?

yes! but with the current you can't chum just anything to hold in A-B areas as you notice.....I would say C is an eddy area where chum/food does accumulate , feeder boilees, cut in half, don't roll as easy..dence base mix, say 50/50 semolina-masa corn flower, a Capsicum based attracters (peppers) like chili powder and black pepper

I'd make up a buttload of feeder baits, you could roll them out in sausages, and flatten them a bit then cut them in 1/2 inch sections, be less likely to roll around as much since you don't roll them just enriched flour will work..no oil ether..less to make them float!

per large egg....40g masa flour.... 40g enriched wheat flour.....14g powderd milk..... 1.5 g black pepper..... 1.5 g chili powder....1.5g MSG......1.5g salt......500mg l-lysine (one pill crushed... 1ml of Tai Fish sauce

This is a VERY cheap effective feeder boilee you can make several pounds!... to make hook baits add 1ml sesame seed oil to help roll, change out the plain flour for semolina...35g/35g masa/semo....add 10g hemp flour to the base mix (you can grind your own in a spice grinder)

I like to take some hemp seed and flash roast them in a wok, then grind them in my spice grinder....

you can make 10# or so feeder "boilees" pretty quick that way...

do you have issues with crabs there?

  16. 2 hours ago, Lizardman529 said:

Where should I make the trail, at spot A? Or maybe from a-c and make them hold at c with a more diverse particle?

And when you say chum where the current takes it- that is between b and c. The current completely stops at the point and all food going down the b channel ends up there. Should I leave a trail from the main channel to inbetween b and c?

Pre baiting a couple times before you fish will really help, chum ..3 days later chum again but a little lighter than 1st time..3 more days fish

and you have the general idea what way does the current flow? remember they will trail the scent from down current, like lions stalk wildebeest....so you may need  at least at first a heavy bread crumb trail, range cubes do well in current as chum anything that can hold bottom...you can load a 6 foot section of PVC pipe...drill a few holes fill it with molasses soaked maze and put enough weight to hold in any current...try to keep you chumming on the d-low....least your swim gets shot up, of meat fishermen make a raid
