64 here today but lakes are down to winter levels. Lots of places are mud flats. They won't start to fill until early May.
-
Carp in all 50 states so that covers a lot of water.
-
Iain, thanks for the link. Caught my first and only carp on the skinny stick last summer. Got it on the list for this year. Know of a place that has some grass carp, too. Will report back on any success.
-
Just what we need, another invasive. Wonder how it got there? Jeremy Wade had one hit him in the chest. He developed a heart condition as a result.

Anyone fished for carp at Lake Taquin? Curious to try it out.
That is your homework assignment. Not sure as I've not seen anything here that is related to that lake. The fun of carp fishing is exploring new places. We even have a Discovery Month where we are challenged to try different places.

Nope. I have no more time to fish. I actually might sell most of my carp fishing gear. I will keep one float rod and one method feeder rod.
Don't do it. I have sold things in the past and regretted it. I could replace them but the cost is 3-4X the original cost of the item.

WTG! Best to our neighbors in Canada! This is an indication that the common carp is being accepted as a game fish. Wish the states here would do likewise.
-
Good fishing on March 20th and hope the weather is favorable.

That feeding frenzy would be a blast with a fly rod. Hard not to catch a fish.
-
How would you put it on the hook? Not a lot of "bulk" for a hook to "impale."
-
Fly fisherman's paradise. Would be hard not to catch a carp there. Tie a popcorn fly or just anything bulky in white.
-
Flatten the barb. This makes it much easier to remove the hook. Been doing this for years. Over stressed stripers release a lot of lactic acid, if I recall, that can lead to the demise of the fish.
-
Other fish have been caught on boilies and field corn. The hook regulation just doesn't make a bit of sense to me. Only fished the South Shore of LI one time with my uncle. We used bloodworms. BTW, we blanked that day. It was preparation for carp fishing.
-
Interesting and confusing. How do they know if I'm fishing the Hudson River for catfish or another species and use a regular hook? I could put s sign on the line- No striped bass allowed.

Welcome to the addiction. Lots of good info on the main CAG page and here. I like your statement- "All I can do is fish." Tough but someone has to do it.

Atta boy, Dave!

There was a group who fished the Apalachicola River in the FL panhandle.

I'm in North Cleveland. Went to TWC back after the earth cooled. I get up to Athens to visit Harbor Freight instead of going to Chattanooga. Keep in touch. Tony L. and Barry S. come up from Atlanta to fish a few times a year. Both have lots more experience in carp fishing than I have. Look forward to meeting you sometime. Have a local venue but we need to look for alternatives. I had a fish-in at Fort Loudon but it was in July and advised to schedule in cooler months.

The links will give some details on the taxonomy and relationship of the two. Asian Carp is a catch-all name for black carp, silver carp, bighead carp and grass carp.
-
Hmmm. Saw a video where the guy Asian carp jump. Only the silver carp jump at boat noise. Turned off the video. Black carp, silver carp, bighead carp and grass carp are the four designated as Asian carp. Wrote a news item for a TV station on this and other invasives.

Looking at the NC map, Moss Lake is just east of Shelby. You also have the Catawba River and Lake Wylie east of Gastonia. Lake Norman is north of Charlotte. Just about any river, lake or stream should have carp. They are one of the most widespread species in the US. Good luck. Something like a DeLorme atlas of NC will have much more detail for fishable waters. The only drawback would be access to the water. We have miles of bank area in the Tennessee Valley but access leaves a lot to be desired. Good luck and tight lines!

Good luck!

Welcome back. Nice capture and with a fat tummy! Now for a new PB?

I recall tying flies to be sent to troops in Iraq who were fishing Hussein's private lakes. Many troops requested fly fishing tackle for the off days.

One can fish all year in Tennessee with some delayed harvest regulations for trout, that is, catch and release regulations and artificial bait only. C'mpn down!
