  1. I always "side hook" sweet corn, right on the hook. (don't push the hook up through the bottom of the kernal and out the top) Never have any issues. Always try to pick out the "meatiest" pieces, and make sure you hook it through the bulkiest portion of the kernal.....you will find that different brands of corn are more suited for hooking than others. Generally speaking, bigger name brands seem to offer up the largest kernals.... Good luck!
  2. Had my 1st outing May 27th. Blanked.....but it was a beautiful day to be out. Allegheny River in NW Pennsylvania. Not sure why it's sideways, but you get the idea.....
  3. nice captures all......
  4. If it's public water - ANYBODY can fish there. Don't "advertise" if you think you "own" or "created" a spot.
  5. I would venture to guess that the vast majority of people that catch carp in ND (or any other state for that matter) release them soon after capture - regardless of what the "rules" state. Those that do not, most like have little to no impact on the carp population as a whole.
  6. typical baiting strategies should work well.......if you can pre bait - that makes it that much better. I always fish kind of simple - oatmeal pack of some sort, sweet corn or field corn - not always on a hair. Occasionally use boillies when I have the time (and some help) to bait up in advance. basic bolt rig - nothing fancy.
  7. The Allegheny (especially north - up above Allegheny County) is chock full of carp. The Oil City Marina was a hot spot some years ago - haven't fished there in years, so I can't comment on recent captures from there. The Mon holds a ton of fish too - but the average size (at least in PA) seems to be waaaaay lower that that of the Allegheny. Erie - caught a few in the lagoons, and seen some pigs in Misery Bay - but never had any luck there. Would love to spend more time there, but can never find enough of it. Lot of untapped water in Erie.
  8. Thanks CC and Jerome. There's some other large koi swimming in this venue, but this guy is the only one to take a hookbait so far. I've watched them clean up a pile of freebies, and totally ignore the "target". Frustrating to say the least. It also holds some monster carp, but I have yet to capture any much over 15lbs, and they only seem to bite after dark. Been working this spot for a few years now, and just can't manage to fool the big ones yet. But I'll keep trying! Stay tuned..............
  9. here is the same fish, circa 2012??? and a link to Cougar Bob's (if you're ever in the area 😊 ) https://www.facebook.com/CougarBobsKT
