Question

Several carp anglers (including myself) have had their credit cards used fraudulently within last few weeks or days. I found out about this from Facebook. I had not used my card for a few months. Is it a coincidence that several carp angler were hit in a short time period, or has someone hacked CAG or an online tackle store?

Mine started early this month according to my CC Co.

The first attempts on my card were from the 21st then a bunch again last night and this morning.

Most of mine were from the 21st on, no better than I can hear on the phone/anywhere (I'm nearly deaf) I may have misunderstood the date but most were in the last few days!

Just checked our login records and nothing strange there on the Admin side where you'd need to be to get any cc info. Sorry to hear to that has happened to a few of you.

We've had a crazy amount of fraud orders ourselves in the last 6 months with fraud credit cards trying to be used that drives us crazy and wastes our time.

A couple of months back had 1 that we requested a copy of a drivers license, a copy of the actual card used and a utility bill because it seemed strange and was a new customer. The card was a HSBC card so we called to verify it and according to HSBC is was not theirs even though it was approved?

We do use Pay Pal merchant system for both Pay Pal and Credit card approvals.

My credit card company called and said someone tried to use it for a purchase in NYC but it was turned down. They cancelled the card and are sending new cards. Someone tried to get a card in my father's name and was turned down. Dad died in 2002.

FWIW, I had purchased some things from some of the CAG vendors for the FFF. Don't know if there is any connection.

Even though I haven't had any problems...use PayPal always on line....I still took the precaution of changing my PayPal account some.

I hope this doesn't happen to me and I'm sorry to hear it's happening at all. I use PP for 90% of my purchases. I'm pretty sure that all of my carp related purchases have been through PP.

Question? What makes PayPal so Hack Proof? They obviously have your Credit Card Numbers when you use them. What am I missing that makes PayPal so secure?

Not saying I am going to get hit with this but in the past year I have ordered from BCT,Carpkit and Johnsonross with no issues with fraud. I have order multiple times from each. I really don't want this turning into a slandering match or anything but with all these carpers getting hit there has to be a link somehow.

Did happened to me too, credit card company called and got a new card.

I have purchased stuff from all vendors pretty much, but not lately, uhhhhmmm

The lady from the cc company just mention something from Grupon but never got charged.

How safe is Pay-pal and aren't they responsible if something like this happens ??

I only use Paypal for my Online purchases. If PayPal was compromised it would have been all over the news. Companies like PayPal have all kinds of safeguards in place. If they get hacked, they must cover the costs, they are insured.

I believe if all the carpers post a list of what vendors they used in the last 6 months, you'll find a common denominator / s in that info.

I'm 95% sure that its a common vendor used with a CC purchase.

My advice to everybody is not to buy from a vendor that don't take PayPal. If a vendor can't take Paypal then they're not up to my standards and don't deserve my $$

Start a tread WITHOUT TALKING SH!T INBETWEEN, call in CC purchases in last 6 months and all the members must do is post all vendors they made a purchase from. I'll delete everything else posted in that section (no exceptions)

We can then put that in a spreadsheet and try find a common denominator, maybe they are clueless on the fact that they've been compromised
