Question

Several carp anglers (including myself) have had their credit cards used fraudulently within last few weeks or days. I found out about this from Facebook. I had not used my card for a few months. Is it a coincidence that several carp angler were hit in a short time period, or has someone hacked CAG or an online tackle store?

I only use Paypal for my Online purchases. If PayPal was compromised it would have been all over the news. Companies like PayPal have all kinds of safeguards in place. If they get hacked, they must cover the costs, they are insured.

I believe if all the carpers post a list of what vendors they used in the last 6 months, you'll find a common denominator / s in that info.

I'm 95% sure that its a common vendor used with a CC purchase.

My advice to everybody is not to buy from a vendor that don't take PayPal. If a vendor can't take Paypal then they're not up to my standards and don't deserve my $$

Start a tread WITHOUT TALKING SH!T INBETWEEN, call in CC purchases in last 6 months and all the members must do is post all vendors they made a purchase from. I'll delete everything else posted in that section (no exceptions)

We can then put that in a spreadsheet and try find a common denominator, maybe they are clueless on the fact that they've been compromised

I just got hit today for electronic goods. I've only used 3 carp tackle companies so it's a small list. My advice to anyone who has made purchases in the last few years is to cancel their cards and order new ones. Only way to be safe for sure.

Last company I ordered from was Resistance, a pretty long time ago though (April 2012).

Aside from purchasing from individuals via pay pal I have curbed my carp spending recently.

Brad for those of us who have bought and no issues should be contribute to that thread to rule out any companies or should it strictly be fraud cases?

Brian, I think the pattern becomes clear enough if only the problems are listed. But if at the end there is still some doubt we can cross reference it with vendors that have had no issues.

Just a thought here, is there a possibility we all unknowingly downloaded a key reader somehow? I suffered with this fraud Easter 2yrs ago. My PC had a key reader downloaded in it. I inadvertantly sent my buddy in Indianapolis some stuff and he got hit. Traced it back somehow and it came from me in something I sent him. I had no clue I even did it or even had it???

I no longer even have that PC and just got my PC wiped clean at Best Buy after I got hit with a Child Porn Scam Virus. I assure everyone here I did not even think of looking at Child Pornography and I wasn't even looking at porn when I got hit, Me not sure what happened I went straight to the WV State Police with PC in hand. They quickly told me its a common scam going on and one Trooper told me he had even been hit with it listening to music. This virus got by Norton, I'm now running Webroot and had my PC cleaned out!

Anyway we all (well maybe all) download/look at carp stuff, wonder if we downloaded a Key Reader??? We probably all look at alot of the same stuff! Maybe we picked one up??? Just a thought!

I checked with a Mac technician. Although it's a possibility, he says it is unlikely on a Mac/Apple. I think you've narrowed the problem down to one vendor. I hope they are aware and are taking appropriate action.

Anybody contacted Andy from Resistance Tackle, so he can run some checks on his database?

I only ordered once from RT, but luckily I used PayPal, so no hits on my CCs.

I have sent out an email just now so it can be looked into.

Andy does offer PayPal and if it is or isn't him does not matter as I will use PayPal in future dealings with anyone. No PayPal, no business.

I've got three or four credit cards for both business and carp stuff. On the only that got hit, the only vendor I had ordered from was Resistance.

From Dennis at Resistance; Just got the first report from our web administrator, they have not found anything that indicates Resistance Tackle's account having been hacked. Whether our Customers check out with a credit card or use the PayPal option all of our transactions are funneled through PayPal. That is why it is taking us a while to validate whether Resistance, behind the scenes, has been compromised. For what its worth I know Andy's personal card was recently charged fraudulently, and his card is in no way linked to Resistance Tackle. We are also in discussions with them regarding upgrading to a more secure environment just to double up on security. In the mean time Resistance Tackle does and always has offered PayPal as a payment option and you do not have to have a PayPal account.

Thanks Dennis. I wouldn't stop ordering from you either way, even if I had to mail you a check. Your service is excellent and I hope this whole mess doesn't affect your business.

Thanks...been working on this since Laura Deatherage brought it to my attention via FB early this morning...thanks Laura. To everyone else, we will keep working on this to validate any compromise. Regardless we will upgrade our system to maintain security.

Thanks for filling us in. I know you have not lost my business. I'm leaning towards what Neil said, there may be a major breach of a retailer bigger than just carpers.
